“Kristallnacht, literally, 'Night of Crystal,' is often referred to as the 'Night of Broken Glass,” (USHMM 1). The streets of Jewish communities were littered with broken glass from vandalized buildings. The German officials announced that Kristallnacht had erupted as a spontaneous outburst of public sentiment. Sadly the Jewish were forced to pay for all damage done to property during Kristallnacht.
