'Courage ' is a word that should not be used carelessly. To show courage one must be bold. It is to stand firmly for what you believe in when everyone has turned against you. Courage is a rare trait that is not commonly found in many people. In Harper Lee 's novel, "To Kill A Mockingbird" it shows that a person can be courageous in many different forms in almost any situation. The characters who display this feature in the novel are Jeremy "Jem" Atticus Finch, Arthur "Boo" Radley and Atticus Finch. They display courage by facing their fears and dealing with danger, going out of their comfort zones and standing up for what they believe in.
Jeremy “Jem” Atticus Finch is the eldest son of a Maycomb lawyer, Atticus Finch. He is older than his sister, Jean “Scout” Louise Finch, by four years and is a good, protective older brother. Throughout the novel Jem can be seen as someone who is curious and audacious but he soon matures and learns about the different types of people in Maycomb. He displays courage in the novel by facing his fear of the Radley Place by coming back for his torn up pants after being shot at there and by being bold enough to run up and touch the Radley house when he was dared by Dill. Jem also deals with danger by fighting off the assailant that had attacked Jem and Scout on the night of the Halloween Pageant. On the night Jem, Dill and Scout were shot at by Nathan Radley, since they were in haste of escaping Jem’s pants had caught on the fence and he had to…
