[The Keystone XL] will unlock good, family-supporting jobs for America at a time when families are losing their homes and desperately need good jobs. The reasonable thing to build the pipeline, create jobs and reduce our dependency on oil from hostile regimes, instead of craving to fringe extremists and seeing …show more content…
Jack Gerald and Gen. Jim Jones say in their article, Build the Keystone Oil Pipeline:
The pipeline, which needs approval from the Obama administration to be built, is an opportunity to strengthen our nation’s economy and energy future. It can help the economy by providing new jobs--including thousands of new jobs to build and operate the pipeline and more than 100,000 new long-term U.S jobs linked to increased oil sands development in Canada.
Having this built can put a divot into the U.S unemployment issues. Also in Jack Gerald and Gen. Jim Jones article, Build the Keystone Oil Pipeline, they point out that in recent polls the vast majority of Americans think that it would be a good idea to build the pipeline. Knowing this information I can not see why any politician would be opposed to building this. Another reason that the Keystone XL pipeline is needed is that it will actually save the environment more than the average person would think. Anderson also points out, “ The State Department report estimates that the Keystone XL carrying 830,000 barrels a day would likely result in 0.46 accidents annually, spilling 518 barrels a year. Under the most optimistic rail-transport scenario for a similar amount of oil, 383 annual spills would occur, spilling 1,335 barrels a year.” That is 817 barrels of oil that would be saved if we used a pipelines to carry our oil rather than transport it by a train.
Some people who oppose the Keystone pipeline say that the pipeline will hurt the environment. That is is absolutely false. The pipeline will not be above the ground so even if it does spring a leak it would not make a big mess. Instead the pipeline will be buried underground far enough that there would not be any chance of a person to accidentally hit it. Also the pipeline will be surrounded by another pipe so for the oil to actually make it into the ground, two pipes will have to get cracks in it. That seems pretty safe to
