War is part of the world even though is “evil”. Is war the right way to go? No, as Augustine wrote in “De civitate Dei.” He writes about Christian judges must sometimes torture innocent witnesses in an attempt to uncover the truth, even though they may never learn whether they have succeed. He concludes sadly, “the ignorance of the judge is very often a calamity for the innocent.” He was trying to say that sometimes the ignorance of the judge is often what cause a disaster where innocent people pay for our stupidity. As like what is happening now in Iraq we are at war with them and many of them don't agree with what these terrorist are doing. However, we are inviting their country bombing them and killing thousands of people innocent people for whatever reason. We judge them just because of their religion or because of how they look.
Augustine identified two aspects of war that required moral justification and guidelines, 1. The right to go to war, Just Authority, Just Cause, Right Intention, and Last Resort. 2.
