One of the major effects that these laws have had to shape what our society is like today is how it was a big kickstart for the Civil Rights Movement, which even though it was happening during the time the laws were in place, it became much more prominent after the laws were gone. Another long term effect of these laws is the passing down of its morals to future generations. For example, if there was were someone who grew up in the Jim Crow era who were biased against African Americans, they may pass these morals and ideas down to their future generations in their family, creating racial tension even when the laws aren't in place. A good example of this concept can be found in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. Even though the setting of this novel is right as the Jim Crow era is ending, the effects of from the laws can still be seen throughout it and Tom Robinson's treatment during his trial. Also, because of the Law's effects on African American's education, in recent days, this group of people has a have lower college graduating percentages than whites do. Though these cruel acts against other human beings may have been considered acceptable during one point in time, thankfully they are not now in current times. Since the Jim Crow Era, our country's mindset as a whole has shifted on what's right and what's wrong. We have come to see that we are all equal as humans and should not be treated otherwise.
