Good-morning, today I’ll be analyzing the evolution of one of the secondary character from the Sherlock Holmes Texts named Irene Adler. Through my presentation, I’ll be discussing how the character of Irene Adler has evolved through comparing the original Sherlock Holmes Text, “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes” by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the modern adaptation “Sherlock Holmes movie” (2009, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock and is directed by Guy Ritchie)

In the original Sherlock Holmes Text, Irene is shown as an Opera Singer and an Actress whereas in the movie version, she’s shown as a world-class thief.
She’s shown more as an independent woman in the original version rather than controlled by Moriarty in the movie version.
Both these versions however, promote third wave feminism as Irene is seen as the person who defeated Sherlock in the original version. Similarly, in the movie version as Dr.Watson quoted, “She’s the only adversary who’s outsmarted you,” and as shown in the example before, its true as Sherlock is outsmarted however, through a weapon known as “feminine wile” instead of her canny techniques used in the original version.
We’re exposed to Irene who holds a negative character as there are three layers of male narration to uncover a single female character making it seem gendered in a negative way, in the original version however, in the modern adapted version, she’s seen less of a negative character and more of a love interest character for Sherlock. This changed the view of the viewers as now, viewers feel more connected to the fact that this character is positive rather than
