To what extent does race, ethnicity, social class and media influence participation in sports and in what ways?
This essay will cover the influences of media on the controversial topic of race, ethnicity and the influence it has in the participation of sports within social classes.
To understand the influence media has on the progress and development of professional sports within ethnic minorities, be it race, religion or even cultural background, one must first understand the concept of racism and the classification of genetic traits.
Racism has been prevalent throughout the ages and is not restricted to just colour. Humans have differentiated each other primarily by the perception they have of different ideas and faces that they are not “used” to. Definition of race changes with different parts of the world. The most misconstrued notion that people have is that racism is automatically classed as “White and Black”. However, that is far from the truth. Examples of racism exists between Italians, Irish and Jews and Other groups, mainly African, Latino, American Indian, Pacific Islander, and Asian descendants, have found the path for worldwide social acceptance
