In this system powers are divided between the state and the Federal government. The separation of powers this way is important because the states existed first, they all had different ideas and it was the Federal government that brought all the states together as one nation. The reason why people wanted the federal system was because they feared that having one powerful government would diminish the whole point of liberty. The federal system is important because it prevents arguments from breaking out. Because of the federal system the state government has things to take care of, such as education,police departments, driving licenses etc. Whereas the federal government itself takes care of other issues such as printing money, taxes, post offices, declaring wars etc. Before the federal system the country was at a very weak point. An example is that, after the war ended in 1783, problems in the union came back, and the country was in danger of falling apart. The states could not agree on how to pay Revolutionary War soldiers, and many veterans returned home to farms saddled with debt and taxes.
To Conclude, the separation of powers is still as important today as it was when the Founders wrote the U.S constitution because it prevents one from abusing their
