Whenever you go to the bank or buy a plane ticket you have to show some sort of photo identification. With advance technology it is a lot easier to take someone’s identity and use it to their benefit. The government has worked on utilizing ids on anything that deals with the state. It has expanded all the way to having some form of identification when voting in the elections.
In the past people did not need any form of identification to vote. It is stated in the 15th Amendment of the US Constitution that the “right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude”(Hauer 2014, 1030). This amendment gives us our right to vote equally, but in modern times society uses this amendment for everything when an issue occurs that involves voting. People in the United States even bring up the 15th amendment and use it when it is not even pertaining to the same issue.
When it comes to voters’ identification the potential for voter fraud has become more of a front runner headline, but people believe that it is just an excuse to reduce the voting rights among the minority. The real question that is concerning is whether voter id is a legitimate attempt to deal with voter fraud or was its purpose to reduce voter turnout among traditional Democratic Party members?
