Eminem, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne are some of the most criticized artists because of their vulgar lyrics, yet, they are some of the most famous people in the world. All three of these very successful artist have reasons and purposes for their lyrics. The controversy of whether or not explicit lyrics should be banned or not is absurd. We would be taking away the artist’s passion for music, way of voicing their opinions, and notifying the public of things happening in the world. Since the twenty first century, rap music has become exceptionally popular. In the late 1990s controversy of explicit music causing violence became more prevalent and later started appearing in court cases. In a 2005 shooting rap lyrics were brought up in a case stating that explicit lyrics were the cause of the crime. The court ruled that the lyrics should not have even been a part of the evidence because it was insignificant (Nielson).
