In the book “How to Read Literature like a Professor” many forms of literature are used to get the reader to understand why some of them are used and how to use them in certain situations. Terms such as Irony, allusion, symbolism, etc. are used in this book to get the reader to understand the way a professor writes literature and comprehend all of the terms themselves.
For example the book how to read literature like a professor uses allusions like Shakespeare, the bible, Greek mythology, and fairytales. In the first chapter they talk about Shakespeare and some lines from the famous book and how they can interlock with allusions and how they are used. Then they use those same lines and show the reader how professional writers or professors can use lines that are similar in a book as allusions. When that happens, the writer of the book explains how to recognize what to do with that and then go from there.

Like one example in one chapter was this kid named foster citing a river as a symbol of how writers choose to emphasize other symbols in a book. So while he is using a symbol, he is educating the reader on how to identify a symbol and use it in a book so they can seem as though they are a professional at what they are doing and not just some person on the corner that doesn’t have a college degree and doesn’t honestly know what they are talking about. Also in chapter 12, the writer of the book how to read literature like a professor uses a cave to symbolize the way to get to India. Now obviously you want just walk into a cave and expect to go out of it and be in India but in this story the author found a way to make that
