I believe that the structure of the economy made it easy for the rich to exploit the working class. All throughout history there are examples of the upper classes in a given society taking advantage of the lower classes, and Smith didn’t consider this a possibility for happening. He thought that the workers would feel a sense of pride and fulfillment from the work that they were doing. This division of labor brought in some of the benefits that Smith was talking about like the increase of productivity, simplicity and efficiency. But he didn’t account for other potential effects that this had on the workers. result in oversimplifying the workers jobs, and essentially made them boring and tedious. This was matched with long and unfair work hours, and the workers were almost treated like animals. They had no time for their families and literally worked their lives away. I can’t imagine that after working their 16 hour shift that they did anything else except go to eat and sleep bracing themselves for the next work
