Hound of the Baskervilles Essay
There are many things in this world that draw us to mystery. The book The Hound of the Baskervilles written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is one that draws you in with its mysterious characters and story. From a big demonic hound to a criminal in the moor there are many clues in this book. While reading we'll be looking at the clues in main story, setting, characters, and finally the writing technique of the author.

When the Book starts we are in Londen around 1889 as known from Dr. Mortimer's cane ,” Engraved upon it, with the date 1884,”(P1) and Sherlock saying it's five years old. Now in the home of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Being in London we see how Sherlock has influence on characters there. A clue that he will be out of his element on this case. Next they get to Baskervilles hall where more clues appear, one that solves their case ,”Good heavens I cried in amazement. The face of Stapleton had sprung out of the canvas.,”(P204) it was a portrait of Sir Hugo Baskervilles and it looked like Stapleton so they found out Stapleton was a Baskervilles connecting him to the murder. The last subject will be the time Period 1889. Now from the time period that there in deaths and mysteries could be more outlandish. Through the book I thought it was a human that killed Sir Charles, it turned out to actually be a hound. This last quote explains ,”And you, a trained man of science, believe it to be supernatural? Sir Henry is a man who lost his boot in the fourth chapter now not just him but his boot are clues. Sir Henry at the moment when he lost his boot acts like Stapleton during the end of the book, to explain he's a man filled with rage and he has lost more than one thing important to him his wife and his money but this is his end(Ch4-Ch14). The next character is Dr. Mortimer he gives the clue of how the story could've ended if Sherlock wasn't there to save Henry by telling them the story of the curse of the Baskervilles (Ch2). The last character is Sherlock himself with this quote ,”The devil’s agents may be of flesh and blood.,”(P37) when he says it early in the story so he doesn't know, but it's still a clue and it relates to Stapleton He's the devil in this quote and the agent is the hound meaning there was always someone pulling the strings.
