Homosexual Adoption When you think of adoption, do you only picture heterosexual couples walking away hand-in-hand with their new child, or do you picture lesbians and gays as well? Homosexual adults should be allowed to adopt children just as easily as heterosexuals. There is no data to show the number of homosexual parents in the United States, but census found 92,000 california homes that reported to having same-sex partners (Gilfoyle). Out of those 92,000, 33% of women and 20% of men had a son or daughter living in their home that was under the age of 18. Many people will argue on the fact that heterosexual families can provide for a child better, but reality shows that the number of heterosexual couples is exceeded by the amount of children that need stable homes. Currently, only a some of the states in the U.S authorize LGBT adoption. For logical and Economic justifications, the burden to the taxpayers is steadily rising. A National ban on the LGBT adoption could cause the federal government to face $130 million worth of expenses to take care of adolescence who could have priorly been placed into homes. According to David Weigel, “The Senate moved to ban gay couples from adopting or fostering children. However, a study on the economic effects of gay adoption found that 9,300 to 14,000 children would be displaced if gay couples were expelled from the foster and adoptive care systems.” …show more content…
A few legislatures are taking a stand to help. Representative Pete Stark introduced the Every Child Deserves A Family Act, which helps as many kids as possible find loving, safe homes (Hunt). People pick and choose what passages in the bible they want to obey and disregard, but the bible is not a rule book. The Holy Spirit helps guide people into loving, committed, monogamous relationships. Some research shows that benefits to children of traditional family structures have generally compared two-parent situations with children being raised by single parents (Mkhondo). Homosexuals are just as good of parents as their heterosexual counterparts. Some people say that heterosexual parents are better for a child’s health, but there is no scientific evidence to back this up. Surveys show no difference in those raised by heterosexuals, and those raised by homosexuals. It is now common for homosexual teachers to display pictures of them and their significant
