Thomas Edison once said “the doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” It seems as if Thomas Edison was hinting to the fact that holistic medicine would soon replace conventional medicine. Could it be possible that holistic medicine will improve healthcare in the United States? Studies show that with conventional medicine as the leading healthcare method in the United States, 89 million people are hospitalized unnecessarily and 75 million Americans receive unnecessary procedures. Suppose conventional medicine is the leading cause of the United States being labeled as the country with the worst healthcare. Suppose that holistic medicine was the way to improve healthcare in the United States. Holistic medicine focuses on the person as a whole by observing the person’s body, mind, spirit, and emotions with the hopes of improving the overall wellness of that person. Using holistic medicine as the leading healthcare method in the United States can improve healthcare in the United States by building stronger patient/ doctor relationships, preventing future illnesses, and encouraging an overall healthier lifestyle for patients. Doctors who practice holistic medicine are able to build stronger relationships with their patients due to the great amount of time they spend getting to know their patient’s body, mind, spirit, and emotions.
