they helped the white out of the genocide area, but left the Rwandans for dead. They had numerous American families that stayed in Nyarubuye that witnessed the genocide. They also had the UN in and out of the country.. The Americans and the US had many opportunities to voice what was happening between the Hutus and Tutsis. Author Philip Gourevitch wrote the article, We Wish to Inform You that Tomorrow We Will Be Killed With Our Families. A man went back to Nyarubuye and witnessed the end result of the genocide. There were bodies all over the ground and it had been thirteen months after. The decaying bodies were scattered every from schools to the streets. Birds, and scavengers ate away what was left of the bodies. “I couldn't settle on the meaningful response: Revulsion, alarm, sorrow, grief, shame, incomprehension, sure, but nothing truly meaningful” (Gourevitch). He could not take in what he was seeing around him. Bodies, bodies everywhere. Before the mass genocide the UN had gathered a couple of busses and went to a popular hotel to get their men. When they got there they saw hundreds of Tutsis standing around the hotel hoping for a way out. The UN commander took all of the Americans that were at the hotel and all of his men and left the Tutsis there to die. In the end the UN did help, but they came too late because at least two thirds of the Tutsis population had already been wiped
