Grendel and modern-day society may not have many things in common from an outside point of view, but when one starts to examine it they are alike in more ways than one would realize. Beowulf's Grendel and modern-day society have similarities and differences; however sometimes the similarities outweigh the differences. The modern-day society of today's world is one completely opposite of the society in Beowulf. In Beowulf's time, what caused destruction is Grendel, the monster. Rather the people of America stay put, one may want to do someting about all the damage being done in their smalltowns; although one doesnt do anything except sit back and watch it all unfold. They are afraid, scared of what the outcome may be if they were to interact and try to stop it as beowulf stopped Grendel. Grendel was limited on where he could go, he could not touch Hrothgars throne for it was protected by God. Criminals and people in general have no morals or respect anymore. They do as they please and destroy everything in their path.
