Glue, the sticky substance that is messy, yet holds everything together. Usually, when the word glue is brought up, the first thought that comes to mind is this white adhesive. The craft tool that allows for two items to be stuck together and stay for a good amount of time. Although, glue is usually thought of as this literal object, a figurative meaning can also be applied using the concept of holding more than just crafts together, but a country together. Adhesives such as glue have been around for centuries upon centuries. Specifically, Elmer’s a very popular brand of glue has been around since 1947 and their first glue was sold in glass bottles with popsicle sticks rubber banded to the outside of the bottle according to Elmer 's Products Incorporated. Now, it is in the commonly know tall skinny white plastic bottles with the orange caps. Glue can be used for many different function. It can be used to makes crafts, art, and even make some small repairs to broken items. In some cases, involving really strong glue like Gorilla Glue, it can be used for construction, sealing cracks of all kinds, and even close a wound such as a cut or gash. A Wall Street Journal article addresses a story of a kid getting hit in the face with a baseball bat. He was rushed to the emergency room, but instead of the normal stitch treatment, the doctor glued the wound together in a painless procedure.
