Getting A Fall Dance Versus A Halloween Dance Essay

Halloween is at the end of this month and with homecoming just around the corner. I would like to include the pros and cons of having a fall dance versus a Halloween dance. I will give some information on how Halloween started, how, when and where it changed, and how people celebrate it now. I will also say how fall is celebrated in other countries. Halloween and fall have different events and styles for different cultures. This may help one out if they are trying to pick between a Halloween dance and fall dance.
Almost 2,000 years ago the Celts, a group of people who lived around Ireland, grew their food and celebrated harvest season as a New Year’s Eve on October 31st. They celebrated with a festival they named after their Lord of the Dead, Samhain. At that time winter was brutal many people died during the winter months. Before the celebration the priest, also known as the Druids, built vast bonfires and the Celts gathered to burn crops and animals as part of a sacrifice to their ancient gods. The Celts would even dress up in costumes that of which were animal heads and skins and told each other’s fortunes. In 800 AD, Christianity spread to the Celtic land and the church sanctioned a holiday. Pope Boniface IV appointed November 1st as All Saints’ Day, a time to honor saints. Soon after that November 2nd was known as All Souls’ Day, a day to honor the dead.
