Benjamin Bradford's History Of Halloween

Halloween In Benjamin Bradford’s History of Halloween, he explains how Halloween or “All Hallows Eve” came about. The intentions of “trick or treat” and the influences behind Halloween. Halloween is thought to be influenced from a celtic festival called “Samhain” (pronounced “sah win”), meaning “summers end.” “Samhain ‘also thought to have been a time of communing with the dead,” according to John Santino, folklorist. Santino also stated "There was a belief that it was a day when spirits of the dead would cross over into the other world. Nicholas Rogers, a history professor at York University states “Though a direct connection between Halloween and Samhain has never been proven, many scholars believe that because All Saints' Day (or All …show more content…
His use of old and new reference also makes the article well kept and not plain. By having it outlined this way, it is also simple to read and follow along with. Radford’s article had some very interesting thoughts and then some very odd thoughts. I think he had a well written article over all. I agreed with his reference going back to “Samhain” because without stating any of that history, there wouldn’t really be any type of article to write. I also agreed with all of the resources he used to write his article. I didn’t really agree with his point about a game that was played by “looking into a mirror at midnight, for a future husband’s face was said to appear.” I feel like that didn’t have a whole lot to do with the article. This article over all was well thought of. Radford used a good outline as far as the order the points went. It made sense and transitioned well into the next paragraph. I liked the idea of learning how Halloween was influenced. It makes you think about the history a little more than just kids dressing up in costumes and “begging” for treats. Halloween is such an exciting time of year, and I am so glad we are able to celebrate

Halloween and Day of the Dead are thought to be similar because they’re around the same time of year, but when you look closer, the two holidays are very different. The Day of the Dead celebrates dead relatives while Halloween celebrates the end of summer. The first difference is that the Day of the Dead celebrates dead relatives; anyone who celebrates Day of the Dead sets up a shrine for their dead relative (or relatives) so that their spirit can find it’s way back to their family. Halloween celebrates the end of summer, and we can go trick or treating and get candy. Both holidays celebrate something around the same time of year.…

ORIGINS by Ian King is more than a great story – it is a look at the origins of Halloween that will (or should) make you view this festive holiday somewhat differently – a look that just could cause you to ban this holiday forever! Exciting on the edge of your seat thriller that will make you think twice at every turn, as ordinary people (people like me and you) find themselves entrenched in the ways of Druids who have an agenda – an agenda of evil – and their focus is YOU! Below is an excerpt that particularly caught my eye (and one that is safe for all readers).…

It is a way for people to connect without there having to be in person interaction. This can sometimes be a good and even sometimes a bad thing.…

A cardiac arrest can be defined as a sudden, or sometimes temporary, cessation (ending) of functions of the heart. There are several individuals that each year participate in long-distance running races, and as of 2010 there were about two million individuals running in long distance races each year; however, this number will keep increasing year by year. Some of these racers after they run their marathon or half-marathon have what has been determined as post-race cardiac dysfunction. This is where Dr Kim and his team of researchers determine different cardiac arrest characteristics in marathon and half-marathon runners between January of 2000 and May of 2010.…

It’s the spookiest time of the year, yet again. Jack-o-Lanterns, Nightmare Before Christmas, Dracula, and all the other classic creep-taculars that pop up by the end of October, typically remind everyone that, yeah, it is Halloween. But why do we even celebrate it, and how did it all start? The most probable answer is because Philippines is one of the largest Christian country in the world and in the liturgical year, October thirty first is the time that we dedicate to remembering the dead. Originated from the terms Hallowe’en or the All Hallows’ Eve, Halloween, according to www.halloweenhistory.org is believed to be a Christianized feast initially influenced by the Celtic Harvest Festivals in Europe, with possible pagan roots particularly…
