Genghis Khan was an influential leader in the Middle East and Asia. He was born a commoner and died a national hero in Mongolia. Genghis was much disciplined and quickly formed alliances and organized an army. Armies of Genghis fought long and hard to gain territories all across eastern Asia. As a leader Genghis brought a legal system, education and literacy to his people and is honored as a national hero. This papers purpose is to analyze Genghis’ early life, rise to power, conquests and global impact.
Genghis was born in approximately 1162. Because of the lack of documentation of the time it is not known the exact date of birth. It is thought that he was born in Burhan Haldun, Mongolia. His father was Yesugel a minor chief of the Borjigin

Genghis would remember this act and reward the family by making his son a general. Genghis formed a small alliance with his two childhood friends and his brothers. When Genghis was 16 years old he married the girl he was betrothed to, a 17 year old girl named Borte. Before they had been married for a full year Borte was captured by people from the Mekid Tribe. Genghis and his friends tracked her down, killing everyone that got in their way. Going on this rescue mission Genghis realized that he would use any form of violence to get what he wanted. Genghis produced an army that was loyal, dedicated and steadfast. He developed military intelligence techniques that were stronger than their enemies and allowed them to overpower them. The Mongol armies stormed into their targets spread out over many miles attacking from all directions. The Mongols were able to surprise their enemies and catch them off guard. Genghis developed a sense of unity within his army by not dividing his troops by ethnicity. He used a decimal system of tens to separate them into smaller groups that made mobility easier. The Mongol armies used mounted archers for speed in attack. Genghis had a strict discipline policy punishing severely for even small infarctions. Genghis expected complete loyalty from his generals and gave them control of their units in war. They were allowed to use any techniques that they deemed necessary to defeat the enemy. The Mongol armies used siege warfare which cut the cities off from resources until they surrendered. They also gained new ideas and technology from the people that they conquered making them stronger as they continued to gain new territories. Genghis developed an efficient communication and supply route so that the army was always strong and knowledgeable of what was going on.
