Genghis would remember this act and reward the family by making his son a general. Genghis formed a small alliance with his two childhood friends and his brothers. When Genghis was 16 years old he married the girl he was betrothed to, a 17 year old girl named Borte. Before they had been married for a full year Borte was captured by people from the Mekid Tribe. The Mongol armies stormed into their targets spread out over many miles attacking from all directions. The Mongols were able to surprise their enemies and catch them off guard. Genghis developed a sense of unity within his army by not dividing his troops by ethnicity. He used a decimal system of tens to separate them into smaller groups that made mobility easier. The Mongol armies used mounted archers for speed in attack. Genghis had a strict discipline policy punishing severely for even small infarctions. Genghis expected complete loyalty from his generals and gave them control of their units in war. They were allowed to use any techniques that they deemed necessary to defeat the enemy. The Mongol armies used siege warfare which cut the cities off from resources until they surrendered. They also gained new ideas and technology from the people that they conquered making them stronger as they continued to gain new territories. Genghis developed an efficient communication and supply route so that the army was always strong and knowledgeable of what was going on.
