The overt expression of attitudes that indicate to others the degree of your maleness or femaleness; "your gender role is the public expression of your gender identity". Gender identity has and will always be a significant idea in society. Going back to the 1920’s when the “flappers” made a change that paved a path for today 's society, starting with the difference of appeal alone, with the short hair, shorter skirts, and makeup. Even though you decide what reputation you want to have, initially humanity has already picked it for you. Being a male or female has always had stereotypes for who does what; females cook and clean, males work and fix things. This idea has even been to the point of very specific to those examples earlier in time. Now though, we are able to break some of the chains and play the some of the roles of the other gender. She was one of the very first girls to join a boys little league team which at the time had a “no girls” policy. Eventually though she ended up being the lead pitcher changing thoughts of the sport for many. One of the big reasons this was such a big deal was because she was colored. Very rarely do we get a colored female to break the chain of schedule because of their cultures past. Mo’ne became known as the “game changer” and beat the odds shocking the nation around her . This was a very bold move which made her become a role model around the world to many, but not exactly to the older fellas who didn 't like change. This was something difficult for the world to accept since she had to prove the “can and can 't” factors to be wrong. Such as girls not being as fast as boys or boys not thinking things through like girls. Although we do still have sports leaning towards girls such as volleyball and football for boys, we do now have boys cheering, girls playing baseball, and boys and girls running track together
