Food is an important aspect of life; it is a daily necessity because all humans eat to survive. Food also act as ways for people to connect and present their cultures. Yet, in different cultures, many food have unique and symbolic meanings. Similarly, everyone has a unique eating habit, which is a way for people to identify themselves. The term food habits refers to “why and how people eat, which foods they eat, and with whom they eat, as well as the ways people obtain, store, use, and discard food”. Most often, food habits are learned through everyday living, family relationships, and peers. However, food habits and culture are influenced by many factors such as: biological, personal, social, economic, and psychological. Biological factors related to food habits are important because humans need energy and nutrients in order to survive. Surprisingly, humans are born with the “basic tastes”, which is an unlearned biological predispositions toward liking the sweetness and rejecting the bitterness. The sweet taste refers as a safe source of calories, yet the bitter taste may signal potential poisons. In this case, it is noticeable that many people reject bitterness in their food habits. Besides “taste”, other sensory aspects such as smell, appearance, and texture of food, determine the spontaneous food choice as well.
