The grandparents are suffering chronic illnesses. The 66 years old maternal grandmother is experiencing an arthritis exacerbation. She is having inflammation and increased pain in multiple joints, severe limited range of motion, generalized weakness, and fatigue. She is also diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, the Sjögren 's syndrome, which mainly cause dryness of the eyes and mouth. This situation is causing her severe anxiety, depression, and feelings of powerlessness; she is not adjusting well to her current health condition. She said that “she wants to help her daughter in the house chores as before, and now she is useless and a burden to the family”. The 76 years old maternal grandfather suffers from skin cancer and hypertension, which is controlled with daily hypertensive medication. The 73 years old paternal grandmother suffers from skin cancer, and hypothyroidism, but she is noncompliance with the medication regimen and she does not want to visit a doctor. The family roles have changed due to the maternal grandmother illness, the parents are trying to adapt and accommodate the caregiving roles between children and grandparents; however, they feel that they are overwhelmed and stressed.
Family living environment
The family’s home is a 5-bedroom house and a big yard, although it is an old house it is well-maintained, clean, and safe for all members of the family. The 9 years old daughter has her own room, but the little sister sleep in the parent’s bedroom. The maternal grandparents have their own room, as well as the paternal grandmother.
