In the course of the interview and assessment, the author identified two wellness nursing diagnoses for the family that also form part of this paper. This author interviewed a family called Josephs. The father is a respiratory therapist and the mother a hair stylist. The son is in the medical college and the daughter is studying for Physician Assistant (P.A).The family brought their sibling to the US and they are living nearby places and they are all very much in touch with each other. Josephs take an active part in their church activities. Although, they belong to Catholic Christian denomination, they do have a good number of friends and acquaintances from other religions and ethnic groups and freely mingle with them. The father is on blood pressure, cholesterol, blood thinner medications and the mother is in borderline obese, her BMI is 21, but not on any medication. The children are healthy and not using any regular medications. The father and mother occasionally go for leisure walks but they do not have any set exercise regimen. They are prepared to accept health advices and wanted to include exercises as part of their routine. Nutritional assessment shows that the family uses all kinds of food, but their choice of food are rice, vegetables and fish. Fruits and salads form an integral part of their food. In spite of their shift schedule, they make it a point to sleep at least seven hours a day. Both the children sleep eight hours a day but the timings vary according to their college work. Elimination includes bowel and bladder functions which are normal with all the family members. As mentioned earlier, the family used fruits and vegetables and also drinks plenty of fluids which keeps them from any issues in elimination pattern. However, the excessive consumption of sodas/aerated drinks of children is a matter of concern and needs to educate them. About activity/ exercise, the entire family lag behind. They do not have any physical activities apart from occasional leisure walk. This is an area they require education especially when the father is on blood pressure and cholesterol medication and the mother is slightly obese.
As far as the cognitive pattern is concerned, they are in a comfortable position. The father takes all decisions including health issues in consultation with the mother.
Sensory assessment reveals that both the children are okay, they don’t need neither reading glasses nor any hearing aids. But the parents need near vision glasses which they are
