Fahrenheit 451 Compare And Contrast Essay

What if in our world, knowledge was limited and nobody could truly connect with anybody on a personal level? Well, in the society of the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, both of these things are happening. The society created in the book and our society today may look and sound very different, yet that’s not all there is to it. In many ways, this supposed “utopian” society of Fahrenheit 451 and our society that we live in today are very different, nonetheless, the two also have their similarities and are alike in many different ways. The way people communicate and connect in the book of Fahrenheit 451, is through the large parlor screens that everyone has in their homes. Although it seems like they’re all true friends, they stay connected and hang out by talking to and about the wall size parlor screens. For example, Millie’s friends came over to stare and watch large TV screens where “on one wall a woman smiled and drank orange juice simultaneously” and “on the other walls an X ray of the same woman revealed the contracting journey of the refreshing beverage on its way to her delighted stomach!” (Bradbury, 90) Truly, their lives are built on fake friendships and relationships. However, our society is also different because, sometimes in a way, the people do connect and communicate. The people of our world allow and have a variety of ways of socially interacting. Also, in our world, we don’t limit knowledge, we allow it. Our society, unlike the book’s, not only lets people extend their knowledge, but also choose how much they know. Both of these societies, although having many differences, have many similarities as well. As different as they are, when you look deeper and find the true meaning behind the words in the book, you find many
