Exercise's Effects on Cellular Respiration Cellular respiration is a chemical reaction that creates energy through your cells. It requires inhaled oxygen and expels carbon dioxide. This carbon dioxide can be detected through the use of bromothymol blue (BTB), which is a pH indicator solution. When the carbon dioxide is exhaled into the solution, BTB reacts as it would with any other acid, and turns from blue to yellow. The higher the level of carbon dioxide, the more quickly the color changes to yellow. Running this experiment would give us the chance to witness the effect of exercise on cellular respiration. As cellular respiration is an active process in our bodies, exercise should have a direct effect on it. Therefore, this experiment
