By having money, a car, a big house, nice clothes and a happy family symbolizes the American Dream. Someone seen this in Gatsby and gave him that opportunity because, “However glorious might be his future as Jay Gatsby he was at present a penniless young man without a past and at any moment the invisible cloak for his uniform might slip from his shoulders.” (Fitzgerald, 149) Gatsby characterization was a young guy with no wealth and had to leave the army to pursue the life he needed to reach his goals. Certain goals cannot be completed without help and confidence. Nick proved this symbolism, by saying, “They came to the door with me and stood side by side in a cheerful square of light.” (Fitzgerald,19) Without ambition sometimes there would be no goals to be met or no work. No matter how anything seems having people by your side who helps create happiness is a good feeling. The dream mimics people and ideas of a self-sufficient man or woman, who works hard to reach set goals through opportunity and perseverance to become successful. Gatsby show his work paid off when he was finally closer to Daisy the love of his life. “Gatsby bought that house so Daisy would be across the bay.” (Fitzgerald, 78) If, Gatsby would have never bought that house he would have never gotten the opportunity to build up his confidence to meet his ideal American Dream
