Title We need to put aside our differences and accept each other to reach any common goal. Acceptance is a big thing talked about in our society today. The idea of someone being different from you and not having the same beliefs is a hard thing for some people to wrap their minds around. It may come from where people came from that people were taught a certain way and it can be hard to break yourself from that conformity. Try living one day as you usually would and then the next day doing and thinking a completely different lifestyle from what you are used to yet life goes on and we have to accept that. That actually happens to many people and we read and hear about it through news, books and social media.
In an editorial named Texas v Johnson Majority Opinion acceptance is shown when people accept that those who burn flags cannot be punished. People know that burning the flag is a freedom of speech and is not punishable by law. Now people accept that it will continue to happen and that they can’t do anything to stop it. Instead of just letting it go people have try and teach the ones who are burning the flag that it is wrong and that burning the flag is disrespecting the citizens and their country. But the citizen also have to be accepting of the flag-burners that they will stop or not because that is what they believe to be right and that is a huge component in accepting is understanding their beliefs. “The way to preserve the flag’s special role is not to punish those who feel differently about these matters. It is to persuade them that they are wrong.” (Brennan,16) This example from the text perfectly reflects the idea that is being discussed. That lead to Yoni dieing and Sergei was left making a decision . What may have seemed like an easy decision for most was a hard one for Sergei. Sergei talked about hiding the body and cleaning up the blood so that he could maintain his relationship with the goldfish as friends. The goldfish thought that a better decision for Sergei would be to use his last wish on Yoni and set the fish free. Sergei had to accept that the goldfish was right and the best decision for him was to use his last wish on Yoni. “I can restore him” said the goldfish “I can bring him back to life.” “No one is asking” Sergei said. When the fish Suggested using the last wish Sergei got mad he didn't even want to consider that as an option. But the last quote let’s you know that all the little gears started clicking and Sergei knew just what he had to do even if it meant losing his best friend he had to accept he would not be able to get away with this unless he used his last wish on
