Tolerance In 'Texas Vs. Johnson, Without Title'

“Tolerance is giveing to every other human being every right that you claim for yourself” (Robert Green Ingersoll 18933-1899). The passages that show tolerance are “Texas Vs Johnson”, “Without Title”, and My So-Called Enemy. In each story someone has to put up with someone who they don’t like or can’t stand. Tolerance is something that happens in our life everyday or every once in awhile. These stories show multiple themes but the one that stands out the most is tolerance.

In this story the husband has to tolerate his wife. “ When he brought home his horns and hides my mother said get rid of them” (Glancy 11-13). The way that this shows tolerance is that he is patient with this wife and that she not appreciative of what her husband does for her. “All his life he brought us meat. No one marked his first kill, no one sang his buffalo song” (Glancy 6-8). This all so shows tolerance because he is willing to bring home meat and get no praise for bring it home. A good example of tolerance is when Inas says “When I see the Jewish girls as individuals I love them and all of them are my friends. We talk all the day and we eat together, dance together and we see the movies together. But when I remember that they are jews I have many feelings at the same time because their people killed my father” (Gossels). This a good example of tolerance because she has forgave them and is friends with them, but when it she remembers what happened to her dad then she has that sense of that it was all their fault. Depending on the person it is hard to let go of things as Gal says “I was supposed to be in the kitchen with them taking lunch I couldn't I don't want to build a bridge ” (Gossels). Most of the time it is easy to let go of tolerance, but other times it is not.
Tolerance is shown throughout these stories over anything else. Tolerance is clearly seen throughout My So-Called Enemy, “Texas Vs Johnson”, and “Without Title” in different ways. Within these different ways of showing tolerance they all tie into each other in different ways. The lesson that is shown throughout is patience and understanding. As the reader, you can see that there are many ways that tolerance is shown throughout the three stories even if it is not clear at
