Situational ethics is based off the fact that the concept of right or wrong is dependent upon the context of the act, evaluating it in an ethical sense rather than society’s absolute moral standard. John Dewey, American philosopher alludes to the fact that the universal law shouldn't be followed, rather they should be, “reflective morality demands observation of particular situations, rather than fixed adherence to prior principles,” (BBC,2014). One of the distinct elements of situational ethics is the intrinsically good element known as love. The concept of love outlines that love is the meaning or desire to promote the well-being of people. If we follow by the theory of priest Joseph Fletcher, love is the ‘ultimate law’, (Flethcer,2015). He believes that acting out love would be to promote the well-being of the person. Supernaturalism is the theory that ethics are dependent on God (Encyclopedia Britannica,1998). Matthew 22:35-40 states to, “Love the Lord with all your heart…. and love your neighbor as yourself,” (Biblegateway,2017). This ethical teaching highlights that we are to love others as if they were ourselves. Applying this to the topic of euthanasia, people live a life that is as possible to Gods life of love, and thus try to live this out. A statement of belief from the Christians supporting Choice of Euthanasia organization illustrates that we as Christians should live a demonstration of love and compassion and thus, those with terminal illness’s should have the option of a peaceful death(Bensch,2017). Despite this, God expresses the fact human beings are very valuable based from the fact that they are a representation of Gods image and thus euthanasia could be considered to devalues lives. If euthanasia was undergone, it would reject the law of love as the process of birth and death is created by god so we should lovingly respect the processes, (BBC,2014). Furthermore, this framework expresses the concept to love your neighbor. To propose euthanasia for the brain dead grandmother would suggest that they are judging that their live is not worthwhile, which goes against the fundamental law of love. If the children were in the same situation, they would want their
