Ethics in Accounting is very important in this era, especially after the financial and accounting failures of many big firms such as Enron, WorldCom, AOL, Global Crossing, Tyco, Lehman and AIG. As a matter of fact, experts and analysts are trying to find out the root causes of these failures. It is also significant to realize that more and more fraud cases are detected in this era. Therefore, there is a big question that has been raised up: Are we facing a huge moral and ethical problem? I believe the answer for this question is “Yes”. And I think it is time to change the situation by creating ethical practices in accounting.
There are many ways to re-establish ethical practices in accounting. One of the best way is to introduce ethics to students more frequently. Nowadays, the emerging demands of revenue growth in many companies might bring up a real issue to accountants. Accounting students will most likely graduate from college with a solid understanding of accounting principles but lack of ethics practices. Therefore, they might be confused when the employer ask them to do unethical things. Many of them ended up listening to the employer and doing a false accounting fraud. I believe that teaching ethics for accounting students will improve this situation. For example, students who were taught ethics well are likely to make more ethical decisions in the future. Obviously, studying ethics only won 't make us ethical. But it can be a useful study to help us understand…
