Have you even moved out of country and found out it was a lot harder than you thought? Well that's how the colonists felt when they moved to Charles Town in South Carolina.
Settlers found Charles Town difficult to settle on due to the different land forms, the various wildlife, Indian tribes, other colonists and land owned by others. There was also unfavorable weather, diseases, low food supply and hostility. These obstacles were difficult to the new colonists and settlers. They found this useful for crops and settling. Made it much easier for them to build there homes on. There were many types of wildlife running around at this time that made it hard for the settlers. The animal life in South Carolina was; panthers, tigers, wolves, deer, and other Beasts of Prey. Charles Town was difficult to settle in because of the various wildlife. This caused there to be less food and livestock and these animals or beasts had scared off the settlers. When the settlers had to hunt and fish in the rivers, these animals were seemingly hunting them and taking over the settlers hunting area and rivers.
The flat land in Charles Town made an advantage to settle on because it made it easier to build homes and settle on and the intersecting rivers and this made it easier for trade and transportation. The settler found this land very fertile which meant it was great for growing crops. Many of these settlers said that the land was “ beautiful like art” and “natural lawns.” There were many different type of landforms though and this made it hard to settle in some areas. Another difficult aspect was the spreading of smallpox decreased the population of the colonist and this caused for businesses to shut
