Iago is a two- faced character that nobody can trust but he somehow manages to receive everyone's trust. Iago’s thought process is to get close to the leader and act as if they are friends but really he is doing it to get the advantage over others. Iago tries to get close with Othello to get a head and move up in rank, but Othello still doesn't choose him. “I’m serving under him to take advantage of him. By pretending to serve their lords, these men get rich, and when they’ve saved up enough they can be their own masters. Guys like that have soul, and that’s the kind of guy I am” (45 & 55). He talks a lot behind people's backs, and he also comes up with brilliant, evil plans to ruin everybody. He managed to get Othello to believe that Desdemona, his wife, was cheating on him with Cassio, his lieutenant. All of his plans somehow fell perfectly in place, making him very successful. If you trusted him you were most likely getting played. ”Oh, you’re happy now, but I’ll ruin your happiness, for all my supposed honesty” (185). He said that to himself about Othello. This shows how tricky Iago can really be. You think you and Iago are friends but really you are just being used in part of his plan.
