Do you agree with Emile Durkheim that deviance is functional and is a necessary part of society? I would have to agree with Emile Durkheim that deviance is functional and necessary within society. It is a necessary part of society because we will always need some deviance, as it contributes certain purposes within those societies. What functions might deviance provide? She manipulated me by telling me that everything she handed me was to go in the bag, taking two of everything. I knew it was wrong and said I did not agree with it and I did not want to be caught. I had told her that someone was watching us; she had assured me that my mind was playing tricks on me. I had tried to give her the bag and walk out, but she would not take it and called me weak. I got upset and walked out with it on my shoulder and forgot to drop the bag, I was stopped by two undercover police. My friend had asked them to take her instead of me, and to let me go. It did not happen. They held me in a small room handcuffed, questioned me without my parents and I was crying, and scared. My parents were called, they told the police to book me and hold me in a cell for a few hours. They hoped that it would straighten me out they said. I was placed in a holding cell with 3 women: two prostitutes and a crack addict. Target did not press charges as they had their items, but I was not to ever step foot in that store again. My parents came and picked me up 4 hours later, I was grounded, not to hang out with Ginny, and not to do this again as my friendship with her ended.
