What is one thing individuals take for granted on a daily basis? Mental health. Some people go unaffected and do not consider the pressures others may be forced to overcome mentally. As many Americans take for granted the notion of not being affected by psychological disorders, many individuals are affected by these on a daily basis. Psychological disorders are defined as, “clusters of psychological, emotional, or behavioral symptoms that cause a person to experience serious distress or significant mental impairment…” (Williams & Piotrowski, 2013, para. 1). While there are many of these disorders, eating disorders, specifically, devastate and possibly end a person’s life if not treated.

The notion that a person has to recognize they have a problem in order to receive the help they need stands. After an individual understands they cannot battle these demons themselves, they are placed on a long road to recovery. Through weight monitoring and counseling, individuals are given a chance to gain back their life. The use of psychotherapy, which is the patient and psychologist work together to find solutions they discuss together (National Eating Disorders Association, n.d, para. 6). This method has been extremely effective over the years as it is widely used amongst treatment centers. Helping them to form new coping habits and increase self-esteem is the main goal of this treatment. While further giving them knowledge on healthy nutrition, sometimes monitoring them for the cases of people who lost extreme amounts of weight and helping them gain it back (National Eating Disorders Association, n.d, para. 7). As in some instances, a patient may be prescribed medications in order to combat one’s depression they may be suffering
