Most theologians who have examined this question appear to accept evolutionary theory. They posit that Jesus holds both his humanity and his divinity simultaneously because he is an emergent, unique species created through evolution and the help of God. Not only does his uniqueness allow him to be both human and divine, but some theologians think that Jesus also could have transcended creation through the help of God. Regardless, in light of evolution, Jesus is regarded as the ultimate form of humanity, and is defined as having full moral consciousness. Furthermore, as he is the ultimate form of human evolution, Jesus is the symbol for what humanity will develop into: as humans have continued to evolve with their own levels of consciousness, so they will transcend all levels and become as morally conscious as Jesus. This being said, being morally conscious, or being able to discern between good and evil, does not mean that a person will always be good. It means they recognize what is, and act to their best ability in accordance with this.
