During this time men were still trying to show dominance to the family. “My sister was crying. My mom was very very quiet. My dad did all the talking. He said that my sister was not allowed to see the boy who hit her anymore, and he was going to talk with the boy’s parents tonight.” (Chbosky 25). This shows the men’s role of dominance because since Charlie’s father is the man of the house, so he makes the rules for them to follow. And when a problem happens that revolves around their family’s the man takes control and try to solve it. Also, the father makes the rules and the whole family has to obey then and this is shown when the father does all the talking and the mother just sat there quietly not saying anything. “Brad’s father started beating Brad. Not a slap kind of beating. A belt kind. A real kind” (Chbosky 25). This showed that men would beat their kids to show them who was in charge if they caught them doing something that they were not supposed to be doing. This also showed that they were trying to show dominance because if the child did something wrong it’s the father would be the ones to direct them to the right way in any means possible. This quote also showed that men were supposed to be straight because when Brad’s
