Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde

"Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are clearly two different personalities because of their physical, mental and moral differences. As Stevenson said in his story Dr. Jekyll is “a large, well-made, smooth-faced man of fifty, with something of a slyish cast perhaps, but every mark of capacity and kindness — you could see by his looks that he cherished for Mr. Utterson a sincere and warm affection.” Dr. Jekyll is a scientist from London. He is also a well-known, well liked middle aged scientist as described in the quote above. However, Mr. Hyde “It sounds nothing to hear, but it was hellish to see. It wasn’t like a man; it was like some damned Juggernaut. . . He was perfectly cool and made no resistance, but gave me one look, so ugly that it brought …show more content…
Hyde is younger, more energetic, and has a deformity. Hyde walks and acts tough with a lot of energy. "He is not easy to describe. There is something wrong with his appearance; something displeasing, something down-right detestable. I never saw a man I so disliked, and yet I scarce know why. He must be deformed somewhere; he gives a strong feeling of deformity, although I couldn't specify the point.” From the appearance of Mr. Hyde, he was young, short, and stocky. Most people say he is ugly Meanwhile, Dr. Jekyll is about fifty years old, a large tall man without facial hair. He is distinguished looking. Dr. Jekyll is a well-known guy. “The large handsome face of Dr. Jekyll grew pale to the very lips, and there came blackness about his eyes. “I do not care to hear more," said he.

In my opinion Mr. Hyde, mentally was an evil man who spent most of his time in the lavatory. From the appearance of Mr. Hyde, he was young, short, and stocky. Most people say he is ugly. Mr. Hyde has no conscience; he has no feeling or regret when he kills others. . In my opinion Dr. Jekyll is smart because, he is a doctor who was trying to do something that has never been done before. Also he was a prosperous who was well-recognized by his community. Dr. Jekyll is devoted to charities and to his religion

Clearly Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde do not think alike. Dr. Jekyll is all about knowledge and finding new ideas. He tried to make two personalities out of one person. Mr. Hyde doesn’t think. He’s a freak of nature. He kills people and doesn’t care or have any feeling

Another example was also in the letter when he was assessing Hyde and his regular self, “I had now two characters as well as two appearances, one was wholly evil, and the other was still the old Henry Jekyll, that incongruous compound of whose reformation and improvement I had already learned to despair” (109). In this quote Jekyll acknowledges that the Hyde part of his is complete evil and the regular part of him is normal which is that he is both good and evil. The last example is when Jekyll was describing a time of his life in the letter that he felt he needed to change to become a better person, “I resolved in my future conduct to redeem the past; and I can say with honesty that my resolve was fruitful of some good. You know yourself how earnestly, in the last months of the last year, I labored to relieve suffering; you know that much was done for others, and that the days passed quietly, almost happily for myself” (117).…

There is the same amount of each in everyone but the way the person handles their feelings shows whether the person lets the evil or the good take over. In the novella The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson the theme of a person having good and evil and that the person struggles with these two forces is very evident. The evil is evident in Mr. Hyde when he commits 2 different murders on an old man and when he killed Dr. Jekyll and ran over a child in his car. Dr Jekyll represents the good when he controls not turning into Hyde and also shows his hatred towards Hyde when people bring up Hyde.…

In The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, it revolves around the point that there are two sides to a person. There is the kind and rational side, which is represented as Dr. Jekyll, and the hateful and indulgent side, which is represented by Mr. Hyde. In the novel, the Dr.’s Hyde side made him do things that any person would regret doing. “Both sides of me were in dead earnest; I was no more myself when I laid aside restraint and plunged in shame, than when I laboured, in the eye of day, at the furtherance of knowledge or the relief of sorrow and suffering”(Chapter ten, paragraph one). Dr. Jekyll performed the experiment to make the drug so that he would be able to separate the two sides of himself, the good side and the bad side. This is not exactly considered a success because while he was able to separate his bad side as an isolated being, Dr. Jekyll himself still contains his dark self. So while Mr. Hyde is completely made from evil, Dr. Jekyll is…
