Their separate identity showed how society viewed Negros in their eyes. Double consciousness had helped and still helps African Americans realize that America(some) does not feel that blacks are a part of the American dream or culture, it doesn’t include African Americans. The disturbing part is that America was built on the backs of the Negros, so why aren’t blacks in that number. I believe blacks have made such a great contribution to America, its sad that America cannot see clearly. In society eyes, we are just Negros, black, African. Negros were lazy, criminals, ignorant, aggressive, hostile, angry, and a problem in the eyes of whites. In The Souls of Black Folk, DuBois discusses in depth the “black experience” that we face in America. The black experience was to make fit in an unfit world. Being black and a male is their twoness. In society today we have seen lots of BLACK males being killed because of who they are. Living in today’s society it makes being a black male harder every day. America has stereotyped us in a way that many people dare not deal with us in the school house, on jobs, and etc. The sense of double consciousness connects deeply on why the black community cannot define themselves, so the black community sometimes settles for what America make us be because of the fight that is put up against us. There are those who make the best out of it and continue to push for greater every time they try to knock us
