The Black church, as a whole has become consumed with the idea or repudiating sexuality as an evil sin that affects spirituality with God. Is it possible to experience the fullness of God while denouncing sexuality? I understand that the White culture’s exploitation and devaluing of Black sexuality, in particular, women is the causal nexus for the problems in the Black community. Why do Black churches insists on marginalizing any expression of sexuality?
Interestingly, the First National Black Religious Summit on Sexuality was at HBCU Howard University’s School of Divinity in 1997(Douglas p.141).
