The novel, Animal Farm, was written by George Orwell, this story takes place on a farm where the animals revolt against the humans, developing their own political theory and society. From the start, we learn of a theory composed by Old Major known as Animalism, a theory which has close ties to that of Communism. Following his death, Snowball rules over the farm, but is overthrown by Napoleon. In time both leaders ignore the equality Animalism meant and conditions worsen. In an event this contributes to everyone not knowing everything that happened or is happening thus leading to confusion. In the farm, there are some animals that are smarter than others, the pigs, being the most intellectual, unsurprisingly took up leading roles and being superior on the farm. But as the farm grew, so did their greed for power. This corruption led to false stories being told to the animals to cover for the hidden operation that the pig’s were a part of. In the story Squealer reports, after Snowball was forcefully overthrown, that it had been a war to get rid of the criminal. “Tactics, comrades, tactics!” He said merrily as he skipped about. Even though the animals witnessed Snowball’s good side, the fact and “support” of evidence that Napoleon used against him gave them no further thought and thus became an accepted truth, the truth that Snowball had been a traitor to the farm the entire time. However, as we know, the removal of Snowball was just a way of to Napoleon take all the power for himself. Future plans made by Napoleon would sometimes be questionable, and make the animals feel uneasy. Other proposals even started to violate the original laws of Animalism. However even through all of the confusion and doubt, the animals were still kept in check by the
