Did Nikki Giovanni Impact On History

Many poets and authors of books have made an impact on history, and one of those many authors who played a role on impacting history is Nikki Giovanni. During her early years she started of slow as she believed that no one “was much interested in a Black girl writing what was called ‘militant’ poetry.” (Bio Nikki Giovanni) The thing that makes Giovanni a good poet is that she speaks upon the history of African Americans struggle of conquering discrimination. Even with the odds against her she still managed to become quite successful. Throughout her years of being a poet she became an inspiration for many. Even before that she had make a plan to become a successful black woman in this world. She had a dream, “my dream was to discover something no one else had thought of.” Giovanni was quite successful in doing so as many of the things she wrote were different from many other authors. For example, Beautiful Black Men surprised many when it was published because many poets would talk about men that way, but she did say that is compliments and apologies to every black man. (Poem Hunter) However to get to that point she had to graduate high school first which was difficult for her. As she dropped out of high school because she chose to be part of a program for people who didn’t finish high school, but later she was expelled for reasons and had to try something else. She went back to Nashville to see if she could make things go her way. Thankfully a Dean of women helped her get back on track and one of them helped her get readmitted and she was able to
