Diabetes is a disease that affects millions all over the world. While it may be on the rise as a result of lifestyle practices such as type 2 diabetes, it is not always the fact. There are others such as type 1 and gestational diabetes is not related to the lifestyle of the individual. Statistics show that this is a growing problem with over “1.4 million new cases each year with an additional 8.1 million undiagnosed”. (Statistics about diabetes, 2016). It was also noted that the incidences of this disease is highest among certain ethnic groups such as the “natives of American and Alaska; closely followed by Americans of African descent” (Statistics about diabetes, 2016). Unfortunately, the complications of diabetes are peripheral neuropathy, retinopathy, amputations, hypertension, heart attack and renal problems among other secondary diseases. These problems have contributed to ongoing research about this disease over the years. Although there have been many advances, modern technology has led to the discovery of a non-invasive method of screening called the EZSCAN.
