As discussed in the last discussion post, the consensus is immigrants are coming to America to make money that could not have been made in their country. This can’t be said for all, but this seems to be the norm compared to the previous 200 years. Work in their home country is scarcer and they are underpaid. In the past, people from other countries would come to America for a better way of life. For more privileges, improved human rights, and to chase the American dream.…
You brought up two excellent points within your post that stuck out to me the most. One was Hispanics staying stuck in the same job position with no chance of moving up due to lack of education and/or immigration status. Due to immigrations status, Hispanics must work under the table as a portion of them may not have work visas. The other reason is that some Hispanics may have not graduated high school or attained a college degree, which would bring them up to a higher paying position. “ It has been thoroughly documented, a college degree is increasingly a prerequisite for a middle-class job and middle-class income; the gaps in earnings and opportunity between those with college degrees and those without have widened dramatically since 1983”…
The Pros and Cons of Immigration Today Verses that of the Past. I am proud to be a United States citizen, because of the rights and freedom that citizenship allows me. These include; the right to pursue an education, fair employment, proper medical care, and non-discriminatory housing. Laws were created by the government to insure that immigration policies are followed to enter the country legally. Generally, a person who enters the country legally must have a green card or a work visa.…
“Thanks to illegal immigration, California’s overstretched health care system is on the verge of collapse. Dozens of California hospitals and emergency rooms have shut down over the last decade because they could not afford to stay open after being endlessly swamped by illegal immigrants who were simply not able to pay for the services that they were receiving. As a result, the remainder of the health care system in the state of California is now beyond overloaded. This had led to brutally long waits, diverted ambulances and even unnecessary patient deaths. Sadly, the state of California now ranks dead last out of all 50 states in the number of emergency rooms per million people” (18 Facts Prove Illegal Immigration Is Absolute Nightmare For…
Hello Prof.Collins and Classmates I am half Italian and half Puerto Rican, the Latina side of me recognizes the struggles that many Latinos , especially those illegal immigrate faces for full legal equality under the law. But I am torn on this subject since these Latinos are undocumented , but they come to American to escaped poverty, the corruption in their country ,and many other factors. They just want a part of the American dream, and it should be done legally ,but at times they have no choice. They are hard workers, working for less many times, but are not desired as permanent citizens.…

There have been many concerns over immigration recently and this creates uncertainty for the fate of The Dream Act. The Dream Act is a legislative proposal that will give undocumented people who came here illegally when they were very young the chance to legally obtaining Citizenship. Undocumented students do not face many hardships due to their legal status until after high school, which prevents them from reaching their highest potential through higher education and stops them from being able to obtain a well-paying job legally. This is because “many colleges and universities will not permit them to enroll. Even if they are admitted, most financial aid is not available to them” (David Bennion).…

Immigration and migration are common actions around the world. Every day thousands of hispanics and haitians wish to come to the unites states “the state of progress”. Imagine leaving their home, their family, their friends and their culture just because of the fact that they are living in a communist country where the food is hard to find, the problems they need to face are unfair because they are good workers, they want a better life for them and their family and in their country is hard to have that life they wish for. Cubans risk their life to come to the United States illegally because of all of the problems in Cuba. People can get killed because of sharks, they can drown, food is gone,no water, etc.…
Nowadays, United States is the country that has a variety of cultures, races, etc. mixing together by having immigrants in the country. This allows America to be rich in understanding, awareness, and creates a society that can scientifically, globally, and economically advance. The country is one of the most developed countries; therefore many people migrate here, to enjoy opportunities that they do not have in their country. President Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “Remember, remember always, that all of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists” (Franklin D. Roosevelt). This quote accurately sums up the majority of Americans in the United States. Immigration is seen in so many different positive and negative ways in our country today. Immigration can be defined as “ a person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence” (Webster 1828), and there are many functions and dysfunctions linked to this particular word. The diversity gained, the economic impact, and contribution to taxes can each be seen as a function or dysfunction in our society today.…
