Though some of the same practices are still used today, more practical and safe practices have been discovered. These days, bees are in a more grave danger of surviving. As of 2016, beekeepers and environmental and consumer groups sued the EPA or Environmental Protection Agency for not doing enough to protect bees from pesticide onslaught. Over the last several years, scientists have fretted over the future for the bees and are giving research to try to shed light on the current crisis. This crisis arose during the fall of 2006 as incredible amounts of beekeepers suffered loses. More than one third of hives lost and in extreme cases 90 percent. The boxes would all be empty of all adult bees with just the queen bee left. Though colony collapse disorder has slowed a little over the years, bees are still in cyclical conditions. Diseases are making their colonies weaker and weaker. Western nations rely heavily on managed honey bees. Around a third of the our food rely on these insects. These foods include apples, nuts, summer fruits such as strawberries and blueberries, alfalfa, and guar bean. Honey bees contribute more than $15 billion to U.S. crop production alone. Beekeepers are finding ways to understand what’s happening in the hive and creating ways to prevent problems. Mites are a big problem because they can build up in the hive. If beekeepers can control the mite problem, it could stop 90 percent of all the things that kill bees (Cowin). There are several treatments being made and they’re very effective. The trick to treatments is knowing when the bees actually need the treatments. Since there is a bigger education now on the bees, if there is a hive lose beekeepers have a way to replace those hives. There has also been bigger numbers of people becoming active with the situation. There has been more awareness about the lose of the bees and how the bees need more protecting. It is said that it is better that there are thousands more beekeepers with a few hives than to have a few hundred beekeepers with thousands of hives. The numbers of beekeepers is rising and so too the number of managed colonies. Schools are putting honey bees on campus and a host of young beekeepers to look after them. Albert Einstein once said, “If the bees should disappear from the face of the Earth, mankind would follow within four
