Death is Inevitable What is death? You most likely think this is a dumb question. A Wikipedia definition: “Death is the termination of all biological functions that sustain a living organism. Phenomena which commonly bring about death include biological aging (senescence), predation, malnutrition, disease, suicide, homicide, starvation, dehydration, and accidents or trauma resulting in terminal injury.” (Wikipedia). There is more to this word than the given description. When someone dies, this leaves emotions on other people. Death is losing your most prized possession; the feeling of never finding this loved item ever again. Imagine finally receiving the puppy you’ve been asking for from your parents, and then having it run away never to be seen again. Now, multiply that negative feeling by 10 and you know what it’s like to lose a loved one. Death is much more than a simple definition. …show more content…
Despair? Misery? Hopelessness? Whatever your answer may be, it is not positive. Just for a second let me sway your opinion. If death is always so negative, then why do some states and countries still have the death penalty? The death penalty is punishment through death for committing capital crimes or capital offences. Death is something that, no matter what works any human does to prevent, will inevitably happen to everyone, but is death something that just happens without a care or is death a tragedy that causes much mourning a grief? Even though we all will perish, death is very tragic and causes much pain to people. Gwen Bristow uses death in her novel Celia Garth, and shows the pain and sorrow that comes with death by showing it through the reactions and events of the characters in the novel. The way a person dies could be the complete opposite, their death is set without a way to change it and everything that person does in his or her lifetime, leads to their end, whether it’s disastrous or peaceful. I personally haven’t experienced any deaths within my family, including pets, but I have witnessed how other family members react when a deceased person’s birthday comes close or when the anniversary of that person’s death is near. Usually when the family member is unoccupied, they begin to think more about the person/pet that died and realize how long it has been and how much they miss their friend, pet, and/or family member. When the members in my family died, I wasn’t born yet, so I wasn’t able to get to know them and grieve for their loss as bad as others might. When a person goes through a death or something that you haven’t experienced, it’s hard to realize the amount of pain that person has gone through and the struggles they had to overcome and maybe still have to…

Even the most devout believer can fear death because it is more of a universal fear – one that is hardwired to our minds.
