Changing people is a difficult task which often end in a disaster with the one being changed harboring ill feeling towards the changer. The reason so many attempts to change someone fails is due to the systems and implementation which are common practice are ill suited for true success. Throughout reading Dale Carnegies book “How to Win Friends and Influence People” I discovered that there are delicate steps to changing people without them getting offended or having them arouse resentment towards the changer. A few of the keys in accomplishing this are to begin with praise and honest appreciation, give the person a fine reputation to live up to, praise the slightest improvement, and finally to talk about your own mistakes prior to any criticization …show more content…
When you give them this reputation it will boosts their self-confidence while providing them a pre-established bar to live up to. By providing a pre-established bar the person changing will have a picture in their head of who you believe them to be. To successfully incorporate this step I will develop a great reputation to everyone I know and will meet. Asking the right questions allows people the ability to develop idea which can be refined into your idea while giving them ownership of the idea. By them taking ownership of the idea they bring automatic buy in and enhanced their follow through on the idea. To implement this, I will develop leading questions that allow someone else to arrive at the same conclusion I wanted them to arrive at.
