There are many ideas about true beauty, what it is, where it lies, and how to achieve it. A main philosophy of true beauty is that it lies on the inside, Cyrano is a great example of this with his appearance not being the best and his personality being so rich. The story of Cyrano de Bergerac is a marvelous example for the concept of true beauty, Cyrano shows that what is on the inside is more beautiful than looks, and it shows that Cyrano’s beauty showed to Roxanne in the end.
Throughout the story of Cyrano de Bergerac, Cyrano folds out as an amazing character with wit, brawn, and his capacity to love Roxanne. In the entirety of the story Cyrano is always too afraid to propose his love to Roxanne due to his looks mainly his nose. We learn that Cyrano’s nose is abnormally large and some of his friends think that it is fake; “...oh God no, it can’t be real. It must be detachable.”( Cyrano de Bergerac, Act 1 Pg. 11) His nose is why he’s so afraid to even be in Roxanne’s vicinity,( much less be with her and tell her how he feels towards her. Roxanne

True beauty worked well into this story because for Cyrano what was important was on the inside. Many people say that beauty lies on the inside, Roxanne at first was only with Christian for his looks but fell into love for his passionate words which ended up being Cyrano’s. Cyrano can make fun of himself easily because of his strong wit and his nose, “For instance there's a frank aggressive kind. If mine achieved that hypertrophic state, I would call a surgeon to amputate’ Cyrano de bergerac. (Act 1 pg, 21-22.). In the beginning of the play when they are in the theatre Valvert, expresses his wits “that thing of yours is big, what? Very big.” (Cyrano de bergerac, act 1 pg. 21) and it shows who he is. Cyrano the expresses his wits“The war like, train it on the enemy.” (Cyrano de bergerac, Act 1 Pg. 22) which is far more superior than

He aims in his commentary to make Cyrano’s morality a joke, and with that he reveals his patronizing nature, as if he is above such petty things as morals. In the use of the “three musketeers and Don Christ Quixote”, characters in literature who are renowned for their righteousness and morality, he brings Cyrano’s stance on fame and success to the level of those characters- admirable, but ultimately ridiculed and fictional. It is clear that he does not care much for the- to him, fanciful- beliefs of his companion and is considerably exasperated by the reluctance of his acquaintance to prosper. Le Bret is condescending and conceited in the extreme, in supposing that his ideals of prosperity are any better than Cyrano’s vision of a life free from the “dirty road to advancement”. He notes that Cyrano has great potential, telling him that he’d “wing up to the top”, but is unaware of the thing that he values the most in his art-…

    (413) Cyrano understands that telling Christian the truth was something to keep hidden at that moment. If he were to tell Christian what really happened right before he passes on, it would bring nothing but pain and sorrow to his final thoughts. His lies allow Christian to be at peace with his thoughts, believing that Roxane still loves him for who he was. Cyrano was willing to allow this to happen, even if it meant lying.…

As Portillo states, “Cyrano, the scourge of falsehood, forces his loved ones to live a lie”(1), proving that Cyrano has no trouble lying to his loved ones. Also proved by the critic Lahr when she writes “Roxane success that Cyrano is the author of Christian’s love letters, he never confesses his love for Roxane”(1) exemplifying the great lengths Cyrano will go to to keep his unconditional love a secret. However, Cyrano is not the only character who uses deception. Roxane persuades De Guiche to keep Christian from the war “why concoct such a devious plan?” “Is it for love?”…

One thing that he had to deal with was his big nose, people making fun of it and he even did it himself so people could not see the pain in his eyes when they talked about it. One thing I remember him saying was “A large nose is the mark of a witty, courteous, affable, generous and liberal man.” Cyrano has a lot of achievements in his life but one I am sure he is the most happy about would be getting the love of his life Roxanne, to finally see he loves her. At first she was in love with another man and Cyrano helped her get him even when he deeply loved her. “Love is when the other person’s happiness is more important than your own.…

It was subtle, yet I found it one of the most important lines in the film. “There is beauty in everything”. In retrospect, I wish this quote was emphasized even more. In a way, it encompasses everything the film stands for; it took an unusual subject and through his legend, created something beautiful. The beauty in the film exists in its honesty, ditching flashy cinematography or over-the-top drama.…

Wharton says that, for once, the “truer instinct of her unassisted beauty” (142) influenced the heroine’s magnificent appearance. Lawrence Selden, beholding Lily in her simple elegance, deemed her “the real Lily Bart, divested of the trivialities of her little world” (Wharton, 142). This proved that Lily gilded her physical beauty as well. If she had stuck to her natural, God-given loveliness, she would’ve always felt truly beautiful, as she did the night of the tableau vivant.…

Jeanne-Marie uses ethos to establish that Beauty is an admirable person. It is also used to set the negative tone for other characters. Jeanne-Marie demonstrates how different the two eldest sisters are from Beauty through their jealousy and mean-spiritedness. Jeanne-Marie uses ethos throughout the book to give the readers evidence that the sisters are unlikable while demonstrating Beauty's appeal. In this passage, Cyrano shows that in the truly important moments of life looks don’t matter but rather the character of a person is the source of worth and beauty. Also in Act 4 De Guiche purposefully loses his scarf- which signifies that he is a title of military leadership- so that he will not be a target for the enemy. Upon hearing this Cyrano declares that he would never act with such cowardice:” But one does not lightly abdicate the honor to serve as target to the enemy. Had I been present when your scarf fell low, --Our courage, Sir, is of a different sort-- I would have picked it up and put it on” ( 161).…

Often people appear to portray certain character traits, but in reality use them as a way to conceal their true inner being.
