Cultural Competence Project

The self-evaluation artifact for the cultural competence project provides a schematic diagram for analyzing my strengths, challenges & growth opportunities to become more culturally competent in regards to providing pharmaceutical care. A series of 3 parts were completed to further my understanding of various cultures and their impact in providing patient-centered care. The first 2 parts entailed watching a series of provider perspective videos and writing reflections in regard to questions being asked. The third part of this project is the completed self-evaluation artifact sheet that represents my view and improvements that need to be made moving forward in order to be more culturally competent. Explicit examples for social determinants of health included environment, stress, education levels, and occupations among others which aided me in recognizing examples when conducting the culture competence project. The project itself entailed the use of CultureVision and the Providers Guide to Quality and Culture websites. The Providers guide contained real-life scenarios of how providers dealt with patients of different cultures in regards to their backgrounds. Utilizing this tool of self-assessment, I will be able to evaluate myself in recognizing social determinants of health that patients who present themselves may exhibit. The use of CultureVision provided me insight to various cultures and traditions that define them. Societal, environmental and religious norms are also contained on this site and as I continue my studies as a student pharmacist, I will be more aware of such perceptions in order to provide the safest, efficient and best care possible. As a result of this project, the artifact presented made me wary of what I need to improve on moving forward with my education and eventually being perfectly aware of social and cultural concepts as a practicing
